Announcements

New announcements will be posted here in reverse chronological order.

Mon Dec 12, 2011

  • Quiz 3 is available for pick-up (as well as manually marked labs, midterms and Quizzes 1 and 2) in the CSE office.
  • Quiz 3 marks are also available on ePost. Please check all your marks (Labs, Quizzes, Midterm) to make sure they have been correctly entered.

Thu Nov 17, 2011

  • Quiz 2 is available for pick-up (as well as manually marked labs, midterms and Quiz 1) in the CSE office.

Mon Nov 14, 2011

  • So a number of students have been asking this question (or similar) about Lab M:

error: Unknown module type: register. In the lab it says that the “register” module is from a ready-made library so I'm guessing we do not need to make it..? Or do we?

  • Prof. Roumani says that the lab computers at school are configured to find and use any sequential Verilog modules. If you are getting this error it probably means you are using a machine at home. You can ssh to red.cse.yorku.ca to use a school machine or make the library yourself as described in step 56, 57 of Lab L.

Thu Nov 10, 2011

  • Fall Campus Day emergency: Sorry about the lateness of this announcement, but it seems I will need a couple of volunteers to help me with presentations to visitors in PSE 020 this Saturday (November 12) from 10am - 2pm. Lunch is provided. Please e-mail if you are interested. Ex-ENG 1000 students are particularly encouraged to reply because I will be demo-ing Vex robots and ProEngineer software. Thanks!

Mon Nov 7, 2011

  • I have put the Quiz 1 and Midterm marks on ePost - please check that your marks are correctly reflected on ePost - see the Grades link at left. Midterms and Quizzes remain available in the CSE office.

Mon Oct 31, 2011

  • I have left the marked Midterms in CSEB 1003 (CSE Office), please ask for Zeripha (or another of the Admins in the office) to get your midterm.

Tue Oct 18, 2011

  • Prof. Roumani tells me there were computer problems in yesterday's lab session. He asked me to pass along the following:

*“The Monday Oct 17 lab session was canceled due to a system problem. Students can make up for the missed session during next week's make-up sessions. Students can also attend any of Tuesday's sessions to make up for any missed lab.”

Fri Oct 14, 2011

  • The TA, Mr. Sajjadieh tells me that the manually marked labs (in addition to the Quizzes) are now available for pick-up from CSEB 1003 (CSE Office), please ask for Zeripha (or another of the Admins in the office) to get your labs. Manually marked labs will have feedback marked on the print outs to indicate any errors.
  • Also a reminder that the Midterm test will be this coming week (Wednesday, October 19) at the usual lecture time and place (17:30 - 19:00 in TEL 0006).

Thu Oct 6, 2011

  • I have left the marked Quizzes (Quiz 1) in CSEB 1003 (CSE Office), please ask for Zeripha (or another of the Admins in the office) to get your quiz.
  • I provided Prof. Roumani with your feedback from yesterday's lecture:

*regarding the comment that the computers are always in Labtest mode - Prof. Roumani urges/begs/pleads that you read his page on the lab procedures here which provides you with the lab schedule (i.e. computers are now SUPPOSED to always be in Labtest mode)

*regarding the comment about absent TAs - this is my fault I forgot that only 1 TA is assigned to each lab session and not 2.

*print outs of your submitted assignments which are manually marked can be obtained from the TA.

Sun Sep 25, 2011

  • TA office hours have been determined. Mr. Mohammad Sheikh Sajjadieh will have office hours Wednesdays 4 - 5 pm in CSEB 2013. Students can ask about lab tasks, exercises and get get feedback about their submitted solutions. If your Lab A required manual marking you may pick up these results from him.

Mon Sep 19, 2011

  • A few students have been asking about how to submit prelab work from home. Not having a CSE account myself, I asked Prof. Roumani about this - here is his response:

Yes, CSE students are able to login remotely to their Linux accounts. They use puTTY (a free software) for Windows or just issue the ssh command from any Mac or Linux PC. The files to be submitted are first transferred to their accounts either via FTP (from home) or a USB key (if they are on campus) and then a remote login session allows them to issue the submit command. Some students do their entire labs in the remote login session, i.e. they create programs and run them directly on our server. In that case, no file transfer is involved, they just issue the submit command.

Mon Sep 12, 2011

  • Labs - I have confirmation from Prof. Roumani of the Lab schedule (see Calendar page)
  • He sent me a few points/reminders for the class:

* Please advise students to read the page “2021L” (see Labs page) to familiarize themselves with the lab component before the first lab.

* Students can submit their prelab work electronically before going to the lab session and that work will be available to them during the lab test.

* Also, marking is now not just right or wrong. The program is first checked by a script and if it passes all tests then it gets a full mark. Otherwise, it is marked by the lab TA and it could get any mark between 0 and the full mark depending on the severity of the errors.

* The other change has to do with which lab is due when. The schedule that you post on the Calendar is now strictly enforced, e.g. LabB can only be done in the week of LabB or in the first make-up week.

* Finally, please remind students to have a CSE account. Currently there are at least 7 students enrolled who do not have an account.
