Tue Jan. 3, 2012

  • The marks of Programming Test#2 (average ~80%) and Written Test #2 (average ~57%) are now on ePost. You can request a copy of your marked tests from the Department Office after the grades become official (~mid January). Also posted are the overall course grades (obtained by combining the marks according to the weights in the Grading Scheme page).

  • The second written test is closed book but you can bring a calculator and an information sheet (one 8.5×11” sheet on which you can write or type on either side). Its scope will be on material covered after the scope of the first written test.
  • You can retrieve your submission to the rehearsal that was conducted last Monday from this link (which actually combines it with Lab#4).

  • An extra office hour will be held tomorrow 2:30-3:30 pm.
  • The submission deadlines for Labs 3-4, and TLA 3-4 have been extended to 11 pm, Tuesday Dec. 6.

  • You can retrieve your Lab4 submission and the lab itself from this link. You are encouraged to complete this lab and submit it so it will be available to you during the second programming test. Post any question you may have on the forum or bring them to the lecture on Wed. If you like to amend your LAB4 files, or add new ones, simply submit these files to: submit 3481 LAB4 <files>. Note that only text files can be submitted or else they wont be available during labtest. To check if a file is indeed a text file, issue the unsub command on it before submitting it. Submission will remain open until 11 pm, Tuesday Dec. 6.

  • Any reappraisal request for the programming or the written test must be submitted by the end of this week, i.e. by 5:00 pm Fri the 25th. Leave your test and a sheet explaining what and why it should be re-marked in my mail box in the Dept Office.

  • Note that the (left half) of the answer to the DES example in the lecture notes was incorrect and has been corrected. The currently posted version is correct. Note also that if you want to run AES and other modern ciphers on your home computer then you would need to download the Java “unlimited-strength” policy files from Oracle.

  • Starting Monday Oct 3, the Monday lectures will be held in the Prism Lab, CSEB 1006. The machines will reboot into Linux Labtest Mode at 5:30 pm and revert back at 6:50 pm. The course directory (lecture notes and programs developed in class) will be accessible as well as your TLA submission.
