Course Announcements

January 5, 2017

Start of classes on Thursday January 5, 2017.

All course related material, such as lecture notes, the list of topics and requirements for the Topic Study, and Project requirements, etc., will be posted in the EECS4352 course directory on red: /cs/course/4352.

Each group is required to have exactly 2 undergraduate students, or 1 graduate student, currently enrolled in the class. (Unfortunately, students who are on the waiting list cannot form a group with other students to reserve a topic.)

Topics are “First-Come-First-Served”. After organizing a group with the required number of students, each group may send by e-mail to the instructor the list of the student names in the group, and reserve one of the topics below. Please note that only a group of 2 undergraduate students or a group of 1 graduate student can reserve a topic.

Please also note that the deadline for forming a group of 2 undergraduate students and reserving a topic is Monday January 23, 2017, 23:59.

Topics are to be presented in the same order of the time of reservation of the topics. If a group is the first group to select and reserve a topic, then that group will be the first group to present their reserved topic.

For each presentation date, the topic title and the names of the students in the group will be listed.

For all students that have not joined a group and selected a topic by the deadline of Monday January 23, 2017, 23:59, such students will be randomly assigned to groups, and each of such groups will be randomly assigned to one of the available topics, and the topic presentation dates will also be randomly assigned.

Please note that the same groups for the Topic Study will also be used for completing other components of the 4352/5442 course work, including the labs, and project.

Note that graduate students must do the topic study, and project independently.

Please note that no lab will be held this week.

EECS 4352/5442 Test 1 will be held on Thursday February 16, 2017, 11:30-13:00.

EECS 4352/5442 Test 2 will be held on Tuesday April 4, 2017, 11:30-13:00.

Test 1 will include: (a) Material covered in the lectures from the beginning of the term up to and including the lecture on Tuesday February 14, 2017; (b) Material in the files RT.1.pdf, RT.2.pdf, RT.3.pdf, and RT.4.pdf in the course directory /cs/course/4352.

It is possible that Test 1 may include true/false questions, questions that require short answers, questions that may require the drawing of diagrams, questions that require slightly longer answers, and other possible question formats.

MAKE SURE THAT YOU READ AND UNDERSTAND ALL THE MATERIAL IN THE SLIDES, AND THAT YOU ARE ABLE TO PROVIDE SOLUTIONS TO PROBLEMS SIMILAR TO THE PROBLEMS FOR WHICH SOLUTIONS HAVE BEEN DISCUSSED IN CLASS. IF YOU HAD MISSED A LECTURE, MAKE SURE YOU OBTAIN A COPY OF THE NOTES TAKEN IN CLASS FROM A CLASSMATE, AS TEST 1 MAY INCLUDE QUESTIONS THAT ARE SIMILAR TO THE PROBLEMS FOR WHICH SOLUTIONS HAVE BEEN DISCUSSED IN CLASS.

Also note that:

1. You are required to hand in both a hard copy and an electronic copy of all the EECS 4352 /5442 course work by Wednesday April 5, 2017, 23:59. (Note that this the last day to hand in term work for the Winter 2017 term)

2. You are required to use the utility “submit” to submit the electronic versions of all course work above to the directories in:

/cs/course/4352/submit

The electronic versions of the reports (topic study slides and report; and project report) should be in PDF format.

3. For the hard copies of all the EECS4352 / CSE5442 course work:

- either give it to the secretary in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Office to be put into my mailbox; or put it in the dropoff box for EECS4352 in Lassonde Building; or you may slip it under the door of my office Lassonde 3018 (in the latter case, you are responsible for making sure that the thickness of your hard copy allows it to be slipped under my office door).
